Overview

Chebera Churchura is a newly established National Park located in Konta Woreda, Dawro Zone. It is 480 km south of Addis on the Addis–Jimma-Chida-Ameya road. It has a total area of 11,900 ha and elevations range from 500-2000 m.

Chebera-Churchura National Park has a good variety of animals. The game rangers are skilled at tracking elephants and buffalos. Other wildlife you might spot while hiking includes lesser and greater kudu, defassa waterbuck, hippo, bushpig and giant forest hog. Guereza monkeys are common in the riverine forest, while vervet monkeys offer lots of entertainment in the campsite.

Due to the large span of altitudes, Chebera-Churchura covers a lot of different habitats and landscapes. There is a big chunk of lush jungle-like forest crisscrossed by streams and animal paths. Further afield the forest thins and gives way to woodland savannah. Several hot springs and crater lakes can be reached on hiking excursions.

Day 1 :

Drive To Chebera Churchura Park National Park

Chebera Churchura National Park is found about 460 km southwest of Addis Ababa. Common mammals include the African elephant, hippopotamus, Cape buffalo, lion, and leopard. Currently, Chebera Churchura national park appears to be the least disturbed and reliable ecosystem for the African elephant and Buffalo in the country. Day 2: Exploring Chebera Churchura National Park

So far, 37 larger mammals and 237 species of birds have been recorded in the different habitats (Highland & Riverine forest and savanna and bush lands) of the park. White-cliff chat, banded-barbet, wattled ibis, black-headed forest Oriole and thick billed Raven are endemic birds for the country. Common mammals include the African elephant, hippopotamus, Cape buffalo, lion, and leopard. Currently, CCNP appears to be the least disturbed and reliable ecosystem for the African elephant and Buffalo in the country.

This park is one of the relatively untouched, recently discovered and rich wilderness areas but the list visited and known park in the country. The park comprises unique and attractive mountain closed forest, closed tall-grassed savannah habitat, thick woodland forest. The landscape very fascinating highly rugged, undulating to rolling plains there a number of hilly & mountainous land which the whole year covered by vegetations. A number of cold & hot springs, historical caves, the Meka Forest (which is always with African Elephants). The park is the best site to see the African Elephants, and Buffalo. Day 3 :

Drive Back To Addis Ababa

After a relaxed breakfast, you will drive back to Addis Ababa where the tour ends. The tour ends with a drop off at Bole International Airport.
